Autonomic Response Testing (ART)When the labs go quiet, the body becomes the lab.

Standard labs measure what's present. Specialty labs try to quantify why. ART looks at the variable both can miss — how your body is responding to what's inside you, right now.

Where ART fits

Four layers of looking. Tap each one.

ART helps us identify what does not show up on blood, stool or urine. An infection hiding in tissue, a toxin stored rather than circulating, or a block that is structural, emotional or electromagnetic. It allows us to identify the stressors in real time and provide real time solutions that are unique to you.

The method

Four steps, repeated with structure.

Formalized by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, with contributions from Dr. Yoshiaki Omura and Dr. Louisa Williams. Select a step.

Introduce a stressor

A stressor is introduced — a substance placed in the body's field, gentle pressure on a joint or organ, a psychological cue, or a remedy held by you or placed on a signal-enhancing plate.

Example: a sample associated with a specific microbe is brought into the field.

A more complete assessment

Why Not Just Rely On Lab Results?

Laboratory tests using blood, urine, stool and saliva are invaluable in diagnosing patients. But a result is a snapshot in time. A snapshot that in many cases does not give a complete picture.

A negative test has context.

Many tests considered the gold standard miss many cases. For example, stool testing - the gold standard for parasite infections - misses at least 40% of parasitic infections. Detection depends on the organism, test method and timing; more than one sample may be needed.

The right test matters.

Most standard tests only look at blood, urine or stool. The problem becomes that many pathogens can persist within cells or tissues, evading detection and contributing to chronic symptoms that go undetected for years.

ART adds an exploratory perspective.

In The Reclamation Experience, Dr. McLaughlin uses ART alongside lab testing to explore the deeper drivers of chronic symptoms and to guide and prioritize treatments.

Before the assessment

Testing for problems with ANS regulation

ART can detect when the body's innate regulatory abilities have been compromised. Testing these regulatory processes, and correcting them when problems are found before a complete evalution is critical for receiving accurate information from your body.

Neurogenic switching

Neurogenic switching occurs when there is neurological disorganization in your body. The switching test relies on neurological pathways in the prefrontal cortex.

Within ART's framework, disturbance in these cortical pathways is primarily associated with pathogenic signals from focal areas — teeth, scars, tattoos and similar sites — or their neighbouring toxic ganglia.

If you are switched, test results will be wrong or slanted in an unhelpful direction, and supplements tested in a client with unresolved switching will not be helpful. Switching is resolved early in treatment to give the clearest answers possible.

Neurogenic switching is often one of the main reasons patients react poorly to supplementation.

Part of The Reclamation Experience

The right step, in the right order.

In The Reclamation Method™, ART is used alongside your history, physical exam and lab work. It helps decide sequence: whether your body is ready for a step, which option it tolerates, and what should wait. It is revisited as you change, so the plan moves with you.

Often most useful when…

  • Your labs say you're healthy but your symptoms say otherwise
  • You react to many supplements and no one can explain why.
  • Detox or antimicrobial protocols made you worse instead of better.
  • You've been told you're 'fine' while your body clearly says otherwise.

Common questions

Autonomic Response Testing, answered

What is Autonomic Response Testing (ART)?

Autonomic Response Testing is a biofeedback assessment developed by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. It reads changes in the autonomic nervous system — usually through manual muscle testing — when the body is exposed to a specific stressor, substance or remedy.

Is Autonomic Response Testing the same as autonomic function testing?

No. Conventional autonomic function testing (such as tilt-table or sweat tests) measures nerve function in a hospital lab. ART is a practitioner-based biofeedback method used to help sequence care. They answer different questions.

What happens during an ART session?

Regulation is checked first, including neurogenic switching and blocked regulation. Then stressors are introduced one at a time, the response is read, and possible options are pre-tested before anything is added to your plan.

Does ART replace lab testing?

No. At Aquarian Integrative Health, ART is used alongside your history, physical exam, foundational labs and specialty testing. It is one input, not a standalone diagnosis.

Where can I get Autonomic Response Testing in Orlando or Florida?

Dr. Brendan McLaughlin, Integrative Physician, uses ART within The Reclamation Method™ for patients in Orlando and across Florida, and works with patients in every state by telehealth.

Who is ART most useful for?

People whose labs look normal while symptoms persist, who react to many supplements, or who felt worse on detox or antimicrobial protocols. A 45-minute case review is the best way to see whether it fits your situation.

Ready to ask your body better questions?

ART is a biofeedback assessment used as one input alongside conventional and specialty testing. It is not an established standalone diagnostic test, is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, and individual results vary. Educational content only — not medical advice.
